Thanks to a strong performance by right-hander Casan Evans on Tuesday morning, LSU defeated the UCLA Bruins to secure a spot in the semifinals.
The matchup between LSU and UCLA was originally paused Monday night at 7:20 p.m. CT due to severe weather, with LSU leading 5-3. The NCAA later announced that the game would resume at 10 a.m. CT on Tuesday.
Evans (5-1) took over for LSU when play resumed in the top of the fourth inning. He delivered 4.1 solid innings, giving up just two runs on four hits, with no walks and five strikeouts, throwing a total of 68 pitches.
“I love the tempo that Casan set today,” said Johnson. “I thought he was outstanding, as he always is.”
Right-hander Chase Shores earned his first save of the season by pitching the final 1.1 innings and retiring all four batters he faced.
