Longhorns 2024 Signee Talented star Suffers Injury, Misses End of Season

AUSTIN — The Texas Longhorns men’s basketball team is set to welcome a strong 2024 recruiting class as they transition to the SEC next season, but there are some injury concerns to address during the offseason.

Four-star signee Nic Codie suffered a knee injury that has sidelined him for the rest of his high school season, as reported by Greg Riddle of The Dallas Morning News. The timeline for his recovery remains uncertain.

Codie, a standout from Newman Smith High School in Carrollton, TX, has averaged 14.1 points and 8.4 rebounds this season. Unfortunately, his absence contributed to Newman Smith’s first-round playoff loss on Tuesday.

Depending on the severity of his injury, Codie may miss the start of offseason workouts once he joins the Longhorns. Alongside Codie, guards Tre Johnson from Dallas and Cam Scott from Lexington, S.C., are key players in a 2024 recruiting class currently ranked No. 9 in the nation by 247Sports.

Codie, who is 6-9 and weighs 200 pounds, is recognized as the No. 10 power forward in the country and the top player in Texas, having received offers from elite programs such as Miami, Kansas, Texas Tech, Auburn, Houston, LSU, and Alabama.

“Ever since I stepped into Texas and they started recruiting me, it felt like home,” Codie said after his commitment. “The whole team and coaching staff showed me love. I feel like it’s deeper than basketball with Texas. We have a real good relationship, and I love the program. They have a history of winning, and I believe I can bring a national championship to Texas.”

Nic Codie’s Injury Raises Questions for Texas Basketball

As the Texas Longhorns prepare to welcome a talented 2024 recruiting class to the SEC, there are some concerns regarding injuries that could impact the team’s offseason. One of the key players, four-star signee Nic Codie, recently suffered a knee injury that has put his participation in early offseason workouts in jeopardy. The severity of the injury is still unclear, and more information will be needed to determine his availability when he arrives on campus.

Joining Codie in this impressive recruiting class are guards Tre Johnson from Dallas and Cam Scott from Lexington, S.C. Together, they form a trio of standout recruits that has Texas ranked No. 9 in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings for 2024.

Codie, who made an unofficial visit to the Forty Acres in June and an official visit on September 15, has made a name for himself as a top prospect. Standing at 6-9 and weighing 200 pounds, he is ranked as the No. 10 power forward in the nation and the top player in Texas according to 247Sports’ Composite rankings. His recruitment was highly competitive, with offers from elite programs such as Miami, Kansas, Texas Tech, Auburn, Houston, LSU, and Alabama.

While Codie averaged an impressive 14.1 points and 8.4 rebounds this season, his absence due to injury led to his high school team, Newman Smith, losing in the first round of the playoffs. As he begins his journey with the Longhorns, the team will closely monitor his recovery to see if he can participate in offseason workouts.

With the addition of Johnson, a five-star prospect who has also garnered national attention, and Scott, the Longhorns are poised for a strong future. Johnson’s impressive performances, including a standout showing at the McDonald’s All-American Game, have made him one of the most sought-after recruits in the country.

As the Longhorns gear up for their first season in the SEC, the focus will be on Codie’s recovery and the potential impact of his injury on the team’s plans. Fans are hopeful that Codie will be back to full strength soon, ready to contribute to a promising season ahead.
