“Huge Boost” South Alabama basketball adds commitment from 2025 prep guard

On Tuesday, South Alabama basketball secured a commitment from Samuel Shoptaw, a 6-foot-2 point guard from Windermere, Florida, part of the Class of 2025.

As a junior at Windermere Prep, Shoptaw averaged 9.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 6.0 assists, contributing to the team’s impressive record of 24-8 and a trip to the FHSAA Class 3A championship last season. He also received scholarship offers from Eastern Kentucky and Jacksonville before announcing his commitment on social media.

Shoptaw becomes South Alabama’s second commitment for the 2025 class, joining Desmond Williams, a guard from Baker High School in Mobile. The signing day for this class is scheduled for November.

For the 2024-25 season, South Alabama has five scholarship seniors on the roster, including returning players Elijah Ormiston and Judah Brown, along with incoming transfers Myles Corey, Dylan Fasoyiro, and Cantia Rahming. The Jaguars finished the 2023-24 season with a record of 16-16, marking their sixth season under coach Richie Riley.
