ALLEN PARK — Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers’ passing game thrived against the Washington Commanders in their season opener. Let’s address the “but it was the Commanders” argument right away, as the Buccaneers truly deserve recognition for executing so well under a new offensive coordinator.

Mayfield recorded 289 passing yards and four touchdowns, boasting an impressive average of 9.6 yards per attempt and completing a remarkable 80% of his 30 throws. Evans had five catches for 61 yards and two touchdowns, while the often-overlooked Chris Godwin shone with eight receptions for 83 yards and a touchdown of his own.
