2025 Georgia Tech Top Recruiting Target Cam Strong Makes Bold Decision

Cam Strong has chosen to join NC State instead of Georgia Tech and West Virginia.

One of Georgia Tech’s 2025 cornerback targets has made his decision and will be joining another ACC school, not the Yellow Jackets. Today, Strong announced his commitment to NC State over Georgia Tech and West Virginia.

Strong recently visited Atlanta and had also visited NC State and West Virginia in the preceding weeks. Following his trip to Atlanta, several 247Sports Crystal Balls predicted that Strong would choose Raleigh, which is where he has ultimately committed.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Strong is ranked as the 667th player in the country, the 61st cornerback, and the 14th player in South Carolina. He currently plays for TL Hanna High School in Anderson, SC, and has received offers from Duke, Michigan State, Tulane, USF, and Virginia Tech, among others.

“Also competes in track and field events.Posted a 5-6 effort in the high jump as a sophomore to go along with a 23.69 in the 200-meter dash.

“2023: All-Region selection for T.L. Hanna, which went 10-2 and made the second round of South Carolina’s AAAAA playoffs. Totaled 35 tackles and multiple takeaways.”

Although Georgia Tech missed out on securing Strong, they received some potentially positive developments today.

One of Georgia Tech’s primary prospects has announced a commitment date and has named the Yellow Jackets among his final five college choices.

Jontae Gilbert, a 2025 defensive back, revealed his final five schools and a commitment date of August 10th. Alongside Georgia Tech, the other finalists for Gilbert include Georgia, UCF, Louisville, and NC State.

As per the 247Sports Composite rankings, Gilbert is a four-star prospect, standing as the 124th player in the nation, the 14th defensive back, and the 16th player in the state of Georgia. He recently completed an official visit to Georgia Tech.

Georgia Tech is currently active in recruiting and notably secured a commitment from defensive tackle Kamron Cullins, who switched to Georgia Tech from SMU. The Yellow Jackets’ 2025 class is presently ranked 14th on 247 Sports, and they could potentially break into the top ten by successfully landing more of their top prospects.

For a comprehensive scouting report on Gilbert, as well as additional stats and information, you can refer to insights from 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins.

“A tall defensive back prospect with promising attributes that make him suitable for long-term development. He stands just over 6 feet 1 inch, and his arms possess additional length based on verified measurements. During the early stages of his high school career, he has demonstrated his skills both as a safety and a cornerback, showcasing his abilities against competitive teams in Atlanta. While some coaches see him as a safety at the collegiate level, his style of play on the field suggests that he might excel in an outside position within a physical coverage scheme, displaying confidence in using his hands and effectively defending vertical routes. He also shows potential as a run defender, as he actively works to disengage from blocks and stop ball carriers. Although he hasn’t generated a high number of interceptions, his physical build is impressive. However, there’s some uncertainty regarding his top-end speed due to limited data points. If he continues to progress, he could become a impactful player for a Power Five program for several years. Additionally, he has participated in track events during high school.

In 2022, he played both as a defensive back and a wide receiver for Douglass, recording 54 tackles, 2 pass breakups, and an interception. His contributions helped the Astros qualify for Georgia’s AAA playoffs, earning him all-region honors.”
