On Wednesday, North Carolina basketball welcomed another player to its frontcourt as Georgia Tech forward Tyzhaun Claude announced his commitment to the Tar Heels, returning to his home state. Claude, a 6-foot-7, 226-pound fifth-year player from Goldsboro, received a waiver to play this upcoming season.
He spent three years at Morehead State but missed much of the last two seasons due to injuries. Last season, he played at Western Carolina, where he averaged 15.4 points and 8.6 rebounds. Most recently, he played in the ACC with the Yellow Jackets, averaging 4.8 points and 5.2 rebounds over 32 games.
Notably, Claude ranked 10th nationally in offensive rebounding percentage at 15.7%, which improved to 16% in conference play, leading the league. In a January 30 matchup, Georgia Tech defeated UNC 74-73, with Claude contributing nine points, eight rebounds, and three blocks.
He joins Vanderbilt transfer Ven-Allen Lubin and Belmont transfer Cade Tyson as new additions to the Tar Heels’ frontcourt, alongside returning players Jalen Washington and Jae’Lyn Withers, who are anticipated to be significant contributors.
