Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin shared his thoughts on transfer wide receiver Micah Davis on Monday. The No. 6 Ole Miss Rebels have a wealth of talent at wide receiver this season, which was bolstered by Davis’s recent transfer from Utah State.
Last season, Davis recorded 628 receiving yards and six touchdowns, but he also made significant contributions in the return game, accumulating 250 yards on 27 punt returns and 83 yards on six kickoff returns.
With so many options at wide receiver, Kiffin was asked how he plans to utilize Davis on the field. Will he play both offense and special teams?
Kiffin expressed confidence in Davis’s versatility: “I think he’ll have an impact on special teams,” he said. “He was out there today making several plays. He can play inside and outside as a receiver. His unique skill set makes him a valuable addition, bringing competition to the group and someone who made significant plays last year.”
Breaking into the starting lineup may be challenging for Davis, given the strong returning roster that includes veterans like Tre Harris and Jordan Watkins, along with new addition Juice Wells from South Carolina.
Nonetheless, Davis is expected to see playing time this season, contributing as a receiver and in the return game. His talent could prove vital as the season progresses and takes a toll on the team.
Ole Miss will kick off its season at home against the FCS Furman Paladins on Aug. 31, with a 6 p.m. CT start time, airing on SEC Network+.
