JUST IN: LA Clippers Expected to Target Another Sixers Guard in Free Agency

Last year, the Los Angeles Clippers were interested in acquiring James Harden as tensions were rising between the star player and the Philadelphia 76ers organization.

This offseason, the 76ers are not anticipated to face a comparable situation with any of their players. However, the Clippers are allegedly still considering signing one of Philadelphia’s veteran free agents in the upcoming free agency period.

Kyle Lowry joined the Philadelphia 76ers mid-season after being traded from the Miami Heat to the Charlotte Hornets and subsequently waived.

Following his buyout, Lowry officially announced his move to the Sixers.Lowry played in 23 games for the Sixers, starting in all but three, and averaged 28 minutes per game as the team prepared for the playoffs. During the postseason, he started alongside Tyrese Maxey and contributed in the Play-In game against the New York Knicks, scoring seven points, grabbing five rebounds, and recording one assist. In the first-round series against the Knicks, Lowry averaged seven points, four rebounds, and four assists per game.

According to Marc Stein, the Los Angeles Clippers are considering two veteran guards in free agency: Chris Paul, a 12-time All-Star who recently finished a stint with the Golden State Warriors, and Kyle Lowry, whose free agency is approaching after concluding the season with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Philadelphia 76ers are expecting significant roster changes for the 2024-2025 season, as most of their current players are set to hit the free agency market. Kyle Lowry, who is currently an unrestricted free agent, will have the freedom to choose his next team soon.

The Los Angeles Clippers’ expected interest in Kyle Lowry does not necessarily mean he will not return to the Philadelphia 76ers. Several factors could lead to Lowry staying in Philadelphia for another season, including the fact that the Sixers are his hometown team and he has familiarity within the organization.

Lowry previously played for 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey during his four seasons with the Houston Rockets. He also recently played for the Sixers’ current head coach, Nick Nurse, in his final three years with the Toronto Raptors.

Although the 38-year-old guard is not anticipated to receive any major contract offers in free agency this offseason, several championship contending teams may still pursue him.
