Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs Express Deep Concern on a recent news update
Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are in a tight race with Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks to secure the commitment of five-star quarterback Jared Curtis from the 2026 class.
According to ESPN’s Eli Lederman, the Bulldogs are favored to win this recruitment battle.
“The same relationships that helped Georgia secure Curtis’ initial commitment last March are likely to prevail again, especially since the Bulldogs are expected to enhance their NIL strategies for the 2026 class after missing out on several top recruits recently,” Lederman noted.
Reports from last week indicate that Georgia plans to take a more proactive approach in the NIL arena for recruiting in 2026, and securing Curtis would reinforce that effort.
Curtis initially committed to Georgia but decided to explore other options last October. He is currently ranked as the No. 3 overall player in On3’s 2026 Class Rankings and is the top quarterback in both the nation and the state of Tennessee.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound rising senior led his Nashville high school team to a 13-1 record and a state championship, completing 70% of his passes for 2,830 yards, with 40 touchdowns and just three interceptions during the 2024 regular season. He also contributed significantly on the ground, rushing for 637 yards and 18 touchdowns. His impressive performance earned him the title of 2024 Gatorade Tennessee Football Player of the Year.
Georgia will find out if their efforts have paid off when Curtis announces his final decision on Monday, May 5. He is also expected to attend the Bulldogs’ annual G-Day spring scrimmage on April 12. Regardless of his decision, Curtis plans to take official visits to Oregon on June 6 and to Georgia on June 13.
