The Georgia Bulldogs continue to look for the program’s quarterback of the future, but things may be moving in the wrong direction with one star signal-caller. Head coach Kirby Smart and his staff are one of the top contenders for the No. 1 quarterback in the 2026 college football recruiting class. Yet, it appears the Dawgs could be losing ground to another college football power.
Georgia also faces questions about who will be the team’s starting quarterback for the 2025 college football season. Gunner Stockton will be battling Ryan Puglisi and freshman Ryan Montgomery among others to earn the starting gig.
As for the future, On3.com’s Steve Wiltfong believes the Dawgs are losing ground in the battle to land five-star quarterback Jared Curtis. The recruiting analyst now views the Oregon Ducks as the favorite to sign the Nashville Christian standout.
“The No. 1 ranked signal-caller in the class and No. 4 prospect overall is highest on Georgia, Oregon and South Carolina,” Wiltfong wrote on Tuesday. “He spoke highly of the Bulldogs this past week. But talking to several sources regarding this recruitment, I think it’s trending Oregon.
“… Curtis has really connected with offensive coordinator Will Stein,” Wiltfong added. “He’s been out to Eugene twice. Dan Lanning’s in-home visit in January was impressive. This is building up towards Oregon.
“Georgia is the program battling Oregon with the Gamecocks, Alabama, Auburn, North Carolina and Ohio State some of the others that have been involved.” Curtis is rated as the No. 1 quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class by both ESPN and On3. The 6-foot-3 quarterback has a projected NIL value of $2.7 million, per On3.
We miss great Quarterbacks because of our Offense coordinator. Kirby needs to recogn- ize this as we continue to miss the elite QB’s
