The Buffalo Bills did not end the 2024 NFL season on the kind of note that the franchise has been hoping for ever since the team became a Super Bowl contender a few seasons ago. While the offseason has not started yet, Buffalo is not wasting time when it comes to taking care of its players, such as extending wide receiver Khalil Shakir’s contract on Feb. 25.
“Bills Mafia, what up? Signed and delivered, man. Appreciate y’all, can’t wait to keep playing in front of y’all. Your support is everything. Go Bills,” Shakir said in a video posted by the Bills after officially signing his extension.
Buffalo announced that they had signed Shakir to a four-year extension with multiple reports providing the details of the extension being worth up to $60.2 million with $32M guaranteed.
Shakir, 25, is coming off his best season in the NFL as he racked up 76 catches (out of 100 targets) for 821 yards and four touchdowns as he filled the #1 receiver void left by Stefon Diggs. After Buffalo moved on from Diggs and Gabe Davis last offseason, many around the NFL were wondering how the Bills would fill the void left by their two leading receivers over the past few seasons.
Shakir was taken with the 148th overall pick (fifth round) in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Boise State and after his first two seasons that saw him go from a depth piece to quarterback Josh Allen’s most-trusted receiver, Buffalo decided to take care of him to make sure he remains in Buffalo for the long haul.
Shakir, who made just over $2.9 million over his first three seasons int he league looks like he’s happy to get a pay raise while remaining with the franchise that drafted him.
