The Winnipeg Jets have made some news on Saturday. Winnipeg announced that forward Vladislav Namestnikov signed a two-year contract worth $6 million. This deal has an average cap hit of $3 million per season and runs until the end of the 2026-27 season.

Vladislav Namestnikov Signed to Contract Extension
Namestnikov has played for a number of teams in the league. The 32-year-old has played for the Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators, Detroit Red Wings, Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars and the Jets over his 12-year NHL career.

He has 10 goals and 19 assists for 29 points in 52 games so far this season. Namestnikov has a Corsi for of 51.8 and a relative Corsi of 4.8. Tampa Bay originally drafted him in the first round, 27th overall of the 2011 NHL Draft. The Zhukovskiy, Russia native had a standout junior career with the London Knights of the OHL.

Namestnikov has represented his native Russia on the international level. He has played for his native country at a number of levels. However, he did help Russia get a bronze medal at the 2017 IIHF World Championships.

What it Means

We’ve seen Namestnikov bounce around the league and play for a number of teams. However, it seems like he’s found a home with the Jets. He’s settled in nicely to roll as a depth forward on the club.

He’s been a solid player down the middle for the Jets as they chase a deep Stanley Cup Playoff run. His 10 goals have been helpful in giving the team some secondary offence. He was going into Saturday’s game against the St Louis Blues on a four-game point-streak.

This is a good short-term investment for Winnipeg and it seems like a good value for the veteran. Jets General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff gives a well-deserved raise out to a player that has been an important piece for the team.

The Winnipeg Jets announced that they've signed Vladislav Namestnikov to a two-year, $6M contract extension.
