Skyridge High QB Kaneal Sweetwyne commits to BYU
BYU was the first program to offer Sweetwyne during his recruitment. He also reports offers from Utah State and Washington State.
Sweetwyne is BYU’s third commitment in the class of 2026. He joins Lehi EDGE PJ Takitaki and Gilbert, Arizona’s Justice Brathwaite. Sweetwyne is the first offensive commit in the class. He’s rated as the 17th overall prospect in the state of Utah by 247Sports.
Sweetwyne earned 6A Honorable Mention recognition at QBÂ from the Deseret News. The dual-threat quarterback passed for 2,633 yards and rushed for 957 yards on 155 carries.
He accounted for 29 touchdowns (19 passes, 10 rushing) during the 2024 season. On the flip side, he did have 16 interceptions thrown as a junior.
Kaneal Sweetwyne led Skyridge High to the 6A Semifinals in 2024 before falling to Lone Peak High School.
During the Under Armour Next camp in Salt Lake City last June, Sweetwyne earned MVP recognition. Sweetwyne visited BYU last April and shared photos from its Indoor Practice Facility, where he received mentorship from former BYU quarterback Jaren Hall.
Sweetwyne is the first quarterback from a Utah high school to commit to BYU football since Ryder Burton did in the 2023 cycle. BYU currently has former Skyridge quarterback McCae Hillstead on the roster. He transferred to BYU last season after one year at Utah State.
