Kalen DeBoer & the Crimson Tide dealt with unexpected news

An already thin tight end room at Alabama took a hit recently as freshman Marshall Pritchett sustained an injury that will cause him to miss the rest of the spring, sources told Bama247.

While the exact nature of the injury is unclear, sources said Pritchett is expected to recover in time to participate in fall camp.

A former four-star prospect and the son of former NFL linebacker Wesley Pritchett, Marshall enrolled early as part of the Crimson Tide’s No. 3-ranked recruiting class.

He provided an immediate infusion at a position of need as Alabama lost both of its starting tight ends from last season — CJ Dippre and Robbie Ouzts.

Alabama moved away from a traditional spring game this year due in large part to injuries. A-Day will instead be a 90-minute open practice to be held inside Bryant-Denny Stadium on April 12.

“He’s coming in trying to learn this offense quickly,” Cuevas said. “And I know [tight end coach Bryan Ellis] is expecting a lot out of him. And, I mean, I think we all are. But we’re kind of pushing him at his kind of pace, and seeing what he knows and kind of like not trying to overwhelm him a little bit. But we know what he can do, and we’re trying to put him in the best position possible to succeed in this offense.”

Alabama added transfer tight end Peter Knudson from Weber State during the offseason.

The Crimson Tide will welcome four-star freshman Kaleb Edwards to the program in the summer.
