BREAKING: Texas Rangers right-hander is out for the season due to a foot injury

and Tyler Mahle is also unlikely to pitch again

Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray has been placed on the injured list Tuesday due to a significant right foot issue, effectively ending his season.

“It’s at a point where we’ve got to take care of this,” said manager Bruce Bochy.

Bochy also indicated that right-hander Tyler Mahle, who made three starts after returning from Tommy John surgery, is not expected to pitch again this season.

This marks the third time Gray (5-6, 4.47 ERA) has been put on the IL this season, with his previous absences due to a right groin strain that sidelined him for a total of 33 games.

The foot injury, identified as a neuroma causing sharp pain in the ball of the foot, had not been previously disclosed, and surgery may be considered.
