As the Dolphins approach training camp, wide receiver Tua Tagovailoa continues to pursue a contract extension. The player made a loud statement regarding this. In a three-word statement highlighting Tagovailoa’s significance to the team, Hill expressed some public support for the quarterback, saying he should be compensated among the best in the league.

During a July 12 appearance on ESPN’s SportsCenter, Hill stated he couldn’t figure out why some people downplay the significance of Tagovailoa or wonder if he should have a longer contract. According to Hill, Tagovailoa is a capable leader for the Dolphins and ought to be compensated as such.

Former sports agent Joel Corry said for CBS Sports that Tagovailoa would find it difficult to secure the same kind of extension that Burrow, Herbert, or Hurts were able to obtain.
“Unlike other quarterbacks who have recently signed lucrative contracts or are in line for new deals, Tagovailoa has durability concerns,” Corry said. “His final season at the University of Alabama in 2019 was cut short by a dislocated right hip and a fractured posterior wall.” The NFL season of 2022 ended early for Tagovailoa due to several concussions.
Because of his injury history, Corry speculated that the Dolphins could be “reluctant” to offer Tagovailoa the kind of security “typically associated with high-end quarterback contracts.”
The Dolphins have publicly voiced their belief that they can work out a new contract with Tagovailoa. Any deal of that magnitude will take time, but general manager Chris Grier expressed optimism in May that it would be finished.

If a new agreement cannot be reached between the two parties, the Dolphins still have choices, as ESPN pointed out. The team can utilize the franchise tag in 2025, and Tagovailoa is still in the fifth year of his rookie contract.
