Just In: Yankees trade pitcher to Orioles for cash considerations

The Yankees have been implementing minor adjustments in their bullpen to bolster their pitching resources for the upcoming 2024 season. Recently, they inked a one-year deal with Lou Trivino and secured left-handed reliever Clayton Andrews from the Milwaukee Brewers.

In order to create space on their roster, the Yankees let go of Matt Krook. Rather than subjecting him to waivers, they struck a deal with the Baltimore Orioles to trade him.

Yankees Engaging in Trade Deal Involving Matt Krook

Krook, who is 29 years old, has only pitched four innings in the MLB so far. The Orioles are interested in continuing his development and exploring any potential value he may offer. In return for Krook, the Yankees will receive a nominal amount of cash. Krook has shown promise in the minor leagues, pitching 138.2 innings in Triple-A in 2022 and another 34 innings with Scranton last year. During this time, he maintained an impressive 1.32 ERA and recorded an average of 14.56 strikeouts per nine innings.

Although Krook has built a strong minor league career, the Yankees have not found the need to utilize his skills, particularly as his walk rate has been steadily increasing in recent seasons.

Chance with the Orioles

Nonetheless, being a pitcher who induces a high number of ground balls, Krook will have the chance to compete for a spot on the 40-man roster during spring training with the Orioles.
