Just In: Wigan Athletic brilliant forward returns following his loan stint at Rotherham United

Charlie Wyke has returned to Wigan Athletic following his loan stint at Rotherham United.

The 31-year-old had initially joined Rotherham on transfer deadline day in January to reunite with his former Wigan boss, Leam Richardson.

However, Richardson’s recent dismissal, just four months into his tenure, and the subsequent appointment of Steve Evans signaled a change in Wyke’s situation. When Wyke was omitted from the Rotherham squad over the weekend, it became apparent that his time in South Yorkshire was coming to an end.

During his press conference on Thursday morning, Evans disclosed that Wyke had an ankle issue that would sideline him beyond the upcoming Saturday. Wyke, who resides in the north west, expressed his desire to be closer to that region.

Following discussions between Rotherham and Wigan, Wyke returned to Wigan where he is expected to consult with a specialist and potentially undergo a minor operation.

Despite being under contract with Rotherham, Wyke has effectively reverted to being a Wigan player in light of these developments.
