Just In: Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Head Coach Jason Neidell Announces Major signing

Mia Merritt will join the WKU Soccer team in 2024, the team announced. In 2024, Merritt, a transfer from North Texas, will start her junior year.

“We are excited to add Mia Merritt to our roster for the upcoming season,” Neidell stated. “Mia has a great potential as an athletic, quick center defender. With her background and winning pedigree, Mia will be an asset to the Hilltopper team right away.”

Merritt spent two seasons with the Mean Green as a defender. She started eleven games throughout that period and participated in nearly thirty.

Lake Travis High School was attended by the native Austin, Texas. Merritt was chosen Academic All-District First Team, State ODP Team (2016–19), All-State 6-A Defense (2020), and All-Central Texas Starting XI Defense (2021) after leading the team to three district victories.

Merritt spent seven years as a player with the Lonestar Soccer Club at the club level.

Merritt joins the WKU soccer team as the tenth new player. The Hilltoppers’ 2024 roster will have 17 returners. At the WKU Soccer Complex, WKU will play an exhibition preseason game versus Chattnooga on August 5 to unofficially kick off the 2024 season.
