This week, Klay Thompson departed the Bay Area on his boat and joined the Dallas Mavericks, marking the end of the Splash Brothers era for the Golden State Warriors.

Mike Dunleavy, general manager of Golden State, didn’t have to wait long to add a shooter to the lineup after Thompson left, as the Warriors signed and traded for Buddy Hield on Thursday with the Philadelphia 76ers.

During their more than ten years together, Curry and Thompson, known as the “Splash Brothers,” unleashed an incredible amount of shots beyond the perimeter, forever altering the way NBA basketball is played. Curry leads all NBA players in three-point field goals made (3,747) going into the 2024–25 season, while Thompson is in sixth place (2,481).

Soon after the Warriors signed Hield on Thursday, Curry and his new backcourt partner, the Splash Buddies, were given a new moniker by NBA fans.

Although Hield doesn’t have as many career awards as Thompson, he is still a capable shooter. Hield has drained 1,924 three-pointers at a 40% clip in eight seasons. Hield played for the Indiana Pacers and 76ers in 2023–24, participating in a league-high 84 games and shooting 38.6% from outside the arc.

It will take some getting used to seeing the Warriors without Thompson in the lineup the next season. But the 31-year-old Hield will still be Curry’s partner when he splashes threes.
