JUST IN: USA Hockey names HC for 2025 4 Nations Face-Off and 2026 Olympics

Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan has been named head coach for the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off and the 2026 Olympics by USA Hockey. This decision was made due to Sullivan’s extensive experience as one of the longest-tenured coaches in the NHL and his international coaching background.

Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan has been selected by USA Hockey to lead the national team at the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off and the 2026 Olympics. This decision was made due to Sullivan’s extensive experience and success as one of the longest-tenured coaches in the NHL. During his nine seasons with the Penguins, Sullivan has led the team to a Stanley Cup championship in his first two years and has compiled an impressive 375-219-77 record, good for a .616 points percentage.

He is the winningest coach in Penguins franchise history. Despite the team’s recent success, the Penguins have narrowly missed the playoffs in the last two seasons. Sullivan is one of only three American-born head coaches to reach the 400-win mark in the NHL, joining John Tortorella and Peter Laviolette.

Internationally, Sullivan has experience as an assistant coach at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey and as an assistant and head coach for the U.S. national team at the 2006 Olympics and 2007 and 2008 World Championships. The 4 Nations Face-Off will replace the NHL All-Star break next season and will consist of a seven-game event played over nine days between February 12th and 20th. The 2026 Olympics will take place from February 6th to 22nd.
