It appears that Geno Auriemma will continue coaching at UConn for the foreseeable future, as the university recently announced a new five-year deal for their women’s basketball coach. The extension, valid until 2029, is worth $18.7 million and comes with added bonuses based on performance.
Having coached at UConn for almost 40 seasons, Auriemma, who has accumulated 1,213 wins, the second highest in Division I college basketball history, and an unprecedented 11 national championships, shows no signs of slowing down.

I’m grateful to David Benedict, Radenka Maric, and the University of Connecticut leadership for their confidence in me and their dedication to the women’s basketball program,” mentioned Auriemma, who celebrated his 70th birthday in March.
It’s still surreal to me that I’ve spent more than half of my life at UConn. I believe there’s plenty more to achieve, and I’m enthusiastic about leading the way with my team and staff. I’m as thrilled about the upcoming years as I’ve ever been in the last four decades.
For the 2024-25 season, he will be compensated with a base salary of $400,000 annually and an additional $2.94 million for speaking engagements, consultations, and media commitments, with increments of $200,000 each year throughout the contract.
Auriemma, a nine-time AP Coach of the Year recipient, has secured spots in 23 Final Fours and guided six teams to undefeated seasons.
