On Friday, UCF head coach Johnny Dawkins agreed to a two-year contract extension, ensuring his leadership until the 2026-27 season. Dawkins, aged 60, steered the Knights to a 17-16 record in the 2023-24 season, their inaugural year in the Big 12, where they were eliminated in the NIT’s first round.

Expressing gratitude, Dawkins acknowledged President Alexander N. Cartwright and Athletics Director Terry Mohajir for their confidence in him to continue heading the program. He reflected on the team’s achievements in the Big 12’s first season, expressing eagerness to further progress. Dawkins emphasized his attachment to UCF, considering it a special place for his family and reiterated his dedication to coaching the university.

Dawkins has amassed a 148-103 record in eight seasons with the Knights, including an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2019. Mohajir praised Dawkins for his leadership during the team’s challenging transition into the Big 12, citing the record audience turnout at home games. The Athletics Director commended Dawkins for his coaching prowess and expressed enthusiasm for his continued role as head coach.

Before UCF, Dawkins accumulated a 156-115 record over eight seasons at Stanford (2008-16).
