Just in: Trade Pitch Has Maple Leafs Acquiring Star $49 Million Forward in Blockbuster

The Toronto Maple Leafs are aiming for a Stanley Cup and one trade proposal suggests they could acquire a star forward. Using PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool, a user proposed a trade that would bring Anders Lee from the New York Islanders to the Maple Leafs.

Maple Leafs would receive

– Anders Lee (with $2 million of his salary retained)

Islanders would receive:

– David Kampf – Nick Robertson –

A first-round pick in 2026 This suggested deal would be significant, as Toronto would gain Lee in exchange for two NHL players and a first-round draft pick.

Lee is currently in the sixth year of a seven-year, $49 million contract. As the captain of the Islanders, he would enhance Toronto’s offense as a top-six forward. This season, he has played in 25 games, scoring 10 goals and providing 9 assists for a total of 19 points. A major aspect of the return for the Maple Leafs would be the first-round pick. Robertson is also a key player in this trade; at just 23 years old, he has shown potential as an impactful player, although he has only recorded 2 goals in 21 games this season. He will be a restricted free agent at the end of the year. Kampf would serve as a fourth-line center for the Islanders. Known for his excellent defensive skills, he can also contribute to penalty kills. Currently, he is in the second year of a four-year, $9.6 million contract and has played in 18 games this season, with 0 goals and 3 assists for a  total of 3 points.

Robertson’s name surfaced in trade discussions this summer following his trade request, but no agreement was reached. Now, with the forward struggling to make a significant impact, he is once again the subject of trade talks. NHL analyst Edward Eng from FanSided believes the Maple Leafs should consider moving on from Robertson before the trade deadline. Eng suggested that if giving Robertson a higher position in the lineup doesn’t result in improved performance, the team should seriously contemplate whether a change of scenery might benefit both Robertson and the Maple Leafs in the long run. He emphasized the importance of giving Robertson one final opportunity to prove himself. Currently, Robertson is playing on the Maple Leafs’ third line but has had difficulty generating offense.

Lee is experiencing success now that he is healthy

after dealing with injuries in recent seasons. As the captain of the Islanders, he is their standout player, and NHL analyst Mike Frink of The Hockey Writers believes that Lee’s health is a crucial factor in New York’s strong performance. Frink noted, “While the offensive zone play has been impressive, what truly stands out is Lee’s all-around ability and his improved speed and agility compared to previous seasons. He’s effectively navigating through space and making plays on the rush, showcasing a versatility he hasn’t displayed since the 2020-21 season.” Currently, the Islanders have a record of 9-10-6 to start the season.
