As the Tiger-Cats gear up to take on the Toronto Argonauts in their last pre-season matchup of 2024, reports suggest that they are in talks to bring another quarterback on board. According to sources at SportsNet.ca and a tweet from Arash Madani, the Tiger-Cats are currently in negotiations to ink a contract with quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa. Tagovailoa, an American quarterback, is the younger sibling of Miami Dolphins’ quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Despite going undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft, Taulia recently took part in rookie mini-camps with the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks in the NFL, but did not secure a contract, prompting him to explore opportunities in the CFL to showcase his skills at the professional level.
Standing at 5’11” and weighing 208 pounds, Tagovailoa began his college football journey at the University of Alabama in 2019 as his brother Tua’s backup. He later transferred to the University of Maryland in 2020, where he played from 2020 to 2023. During his time at Maryland, Tagovailoa appeared in 41 games for the Terrapins, completing 955 of 1,424 passes for 11,256 yards, tallying 76 touchdowns and 37 interceptions.
Here's a familiar name that may be CFL bound soon: Sources tell me Taulia Tagovailoa, Tua's younger brother, is close to a deal to sign with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

In the 2023 season, Tagovailoa delivered an impressive performance, leading the Big 10 conference in several key metrics such as completions (240), pass attempts (437), passing yards (3,377), and passing touchdowns (25). However, he also topped the conference in interceptions with 11, a stat he aims to refine moving forward.
Should the Tiger-Cats finalize a deal with Tagovailoa, it could reshape their quarterback squad. While they currently boast a strong roster featuring starting quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell, backup Taylor Powell, and hopefuls Kevin Thomson and Harrison Frost, the potential addition of Tagovailoa poses a pivotal decision for the team. Following this weekend’s pre-season games, the Tiger-Cats and other CFL teams will announce their final roster cuts from the training camp roster.
