Just In: The White Sox Makes a Few Intriguing Roster Moves

Every day brings a new promotion or demotion, giving the impression that the White Sox are always moving players around on their roster. But unlike usual, they made a few bigger modifications this time.

Bryan Ramos, one of the White Sox’s best prospects, has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with effect from May 15th, the team stated. In addition, they summoned Corey Julks, who they traded for yesterday. In order to make way for Danny Mendick, the White Sox optioned Braden Shewmake to AAA.

There is a lot to unpack in this batch of transfers, which makes it interesting. initial off, considering how well Ramos was performing during his initial stay with the White Sox, it is unfortunate that he is hurt enough to be sidelined. In 32 at-bats, he is hitting.281 with two RBIS. In addition to his solid start at the plate, he hasn’t been overmatched and has played excellent defence. When he returns from his injury, hopefully he will have a spot on the squad.

Many were concerned about Ramos’s future when Mendick made a full recovery.
The most intriguing move came when they brought up Corey Julks, a recent recruit. In 298 at-bats the previous season, Julks hit.245 with a.297 OBP. Along with 33 RBIs and a good 15 stolen bases, he had six home runs.

Despite being a little below average and OBP, they are still some of the best stats on the White Sox for this season. He rounds out a White Sox lineup that could use a little more power and pace with an intriguing mix.

Although Julks hasn’t played in the major leagues in 2024, he has started the year with some excellent AAA numbers. He is hitting.266 with a.358 OBP thus far. In 124 at-bats, he has added five home runs, fifteen RBIs, and six stolen bases. An excellent start to Julks’ season. He now relocates to Chicago, where he intends to build on a strong season opening.

Though he has occasionally played third in the minors, he is mostly an outfielder, so I’m not sure where they plan to use him. With the Knights, he is presently two for six thus far.

However, Mendick for Shewmake is the key move here. Shewmake, who was acquired in the trade for Aaron Bummer, had an excellent spring training and early season. But he no longer has the same swing, and it has cost him a spot in the majors. Shewmake can play various infield positions and is a good base runner, so perhaps he can improve his bat in the lower levels. If not, he could be a very valuable utility player in the majors.

It appears that Mendick will start at third base tonight and stay there until Ramos returns. With 39 at-bats, Mendick has hit.256 with one home run and three RBIs this season. Until the White Sox decide how to manage third base for the remainder of the season, he will provide them with some quality at-bats.

Hopefully the White Sox are prepared for tonight’s series opener against the Yankees, which the Sox will begin.
