Colin Attenborough received a pancreatic cancer diagnosis shortly before Christmas and passed away on Monday while being “surrounded by his family”
Those close to Mr. Attenborough, aged 87, shared that he was cognizant of Derby’s promotion back to the Championship on the previous Saturday.
Before his passing, Mr. Attenborough expressed his wish to “hang on” to witness the promotion, stating he would “love it”.
In February, Derby County manager Paul Warne conveyed in a video message that his team would strive for promotion in honor of the devoted fan.
For 15 years, Mr. Attenborough served as the chairman of Sinfin Moor Park nature reserve in Derby.
In a recent tribute, a newly constructed pavilion was dedicated in his name to honor his contributions
n a statement from his family, they expressed their deep sorrow at the passing of their cherished father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
They were touched by the outpouring of love and recognition he received from all quarters. They extended gratitude for the kindness and support shown during this difficult time.
Before his passing, Mr. Attenborough had requested to have a Derby County scarf placed on his coffin.
Regarding his funeral arrangements, he mentioned, “I want my cordless drill in case any tasks arise because I enjoy DIY, and I’d like a pack of playing cards.”
