JUST IN: Stoke City Poised to Welcome New Signing as Player Undergoes Medical for £1 Million Move

Viktor Johansson is set to move to Stoke City

Stoke City will soon have an answer to their goalkeeping dilemma in the form of highly regarded Viktor Johansson of Rotherham United. That’s according to John Percy of The Telegraph, who reports that the Sweden international is scheduled to finish a physical today in advance of a reported £1 million or more deal.

According to reports, after the Millers were demoted to League One, the Potters triggered a release clause in the 25-year-old’s contract. Despite Rotherham’s disappointing season, the former Aston Villa trainee had a strong campaign and has been one of United’s top players in recent years. Since joining the team in September 2020, he has made 144 appearances for United, adding to his total.

Johansson began his career with Hammarby in his native country before attending Villa Academy for four years. At the age of 19, he joined the Leicester development squad in 2019, however he never played for the senior team. Over Moldova in October of last year, he earned his first senior cap.

Stoke, which struggled to find a goalie during the previous year, has made an early and significant change. Even though he was only on loan, Mark Travers seemed like a good addition, especially considering that Bournemouth called him back after just 14 games.

That forced Stoke to bring in Daniel Iversen, another loan player, this time from Leicester City, after Jack Bonham failed to impress in the job. The preceding two seasons presented an equally jumbled picture, with Bonham, Adam Davies, Joe Bursik, and Matija Sarkic all dividing the playing time.
