Among the recruits that Greg Schiano successfully persuaded to choose Rutgers this past weekend, N’kye Wynn, the highly coveted offensive lineman from Muskegon, Michigan, stands out as the most sought-after.
According to On3.com, Wynn, a four-star tackle, opted for Rutgers on Sunday over 24 offers from schools such as Wisconsin, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Michigan State, Vanderbilt, Pitt, Minnesota, Purdue, Indiana, and Iowa State.
Impressively, Wynn canceled four planned visits to Wisconsin, Michigan State, Pitt, and Kentucky, although the latter had not extended an offer to him yet.
Apart from major programs, group of five schools like Cincinnati, Tulane, Western Michigan, Toledo, Miami of Ohio, Liberty, Kent State, Eastern Michigan, Colorado State, Central Michigan, Bowling Green, and Colorado State also sought out this blue-chip prospect. Wynn, a D2 MHSAA state champion and the fourth-ranked offensive lineman in Michigan, played a pivotal role in his team’s offense, accumulating impressive statistics during the previous season.
With a list of achievements including zero sacks allowed, one pressure conceded, 67 knockdown blocks, and all-state recognition, Wynn has garnered attention nationally. His athletic prowess is evident with a 32-inch vertical jump, a 315-pound bench press, a 485-pound squat, and a 40-yard dash time of 5.1 seconds.
As he approaches his final season in high school with 28 games already under his belt at right tackle, Wynn’s experience will be a valuable addition to Rutgers’ offensive line group, which has shown significant improvement under the guidance of former Giants coach, Pat Flaherty, over the past two years.
During the weekend, a group of 21 high school seniors explored Rutgers’ facilities, academic offerings, and football strategies, evaluating if the program aligns with their goals. Seven of these players, representing 33%, hold four-star ratings.
The weekend saw eight recruits committing to Rutgers, potentially shaping the roster for the program’s future.
