The 29-year-old found it easy to choose New England. While he will sport a fresh jersey in 2024, he will reunite with Alex Van Pelt, a familiar figure. “We collaborated for a couple of years. He’s extremely intelligent and brings positive vibes to the team environment. That aspect is crucial,” Hooper remarked. “Many only focus on the game time on Sundays, but there are numerous hours during the week when we bond and work together. Having good relationships with your colleagues truly enhances the work experience. It just clicks, doesn’t it?

“His techniques, his strategies, his offensive system, his knowledge of the team members, and his character as a person and coach will definitely make coming to work each day a joyful experience.

Van Pelt, aged 53, played as an NFL quarterback from 1993 to 2003. In his coaching role, he leverages his player experience to empathize with the team. He is known for his player-friendly coaching style, much like the new Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo.

Recently hired this season to take over from Bill O’Brien, Van Pelt is entrusted with revitalizing the Patriots’ offense. Hooper, a seasoned tight end with two Pro Bowl appearances, brings familiarity with this new system to the Patriots.

Having spent the previous season in Las Vegas, where he caught 25 passes for 234 yards, Hooper will now collaborate with fellow tight end Hunter Henry, stepping in for Mike Gesicki.

Hooper collaborated with Van Pelt during the 2020 and 2021 seasons when they were both with the Cleveland Browns. In his first year, he secured 46 receptions for 435 yards and four touchdowns. The following year, Hooper concluded with 38 catches, 345 yards, and three touchdowns.

At the time of their initial partnership, Hooper was 26 years old and expressed delight in working alongside the coach.

“Van Pelt is just a seasoned individual who brings comprehensive experience as a player, coach, and observer of the game,” Hooper remarked. “Working with him has been a pleasure. He maintains a consistent demeanor every day.

While he doesn’t overlook issues and addresses them, he does so in a way that motivates players, sustains a positive atmosphere, and fosters a conducive learning environment.
