JUST IN: Ottawa Redblacks Bolster Squad Depth as head Coach Bob Dyce Announces Major Signing

The Ottawa Redblacks knew they needed offensive line support going into the 2024 off-season. They went out and added a number of players, including some guys who may have started. Even yet, going into the first week of the preseason, they are still worried about their depth.

Days before the Redblacks’ preseason opener, offensive lineman Cooper Hamilton was signed. Ottawa responded by releasing rookie running back Jared Chisari, who was not selected in the draft. Although Chisari’s stint with the Redblacks was brief, other teams are now keeping an eye on him.

Cooper Hamilton: who is he?

317 pounds and 6’7″ tall Hamilton hails from Innisfil, Ontario, and is a national player. He spent five seasons as a student at Wilfrid Laurier, bulking up his 6’7 physique with an additional 35 pounds of muscle.

In 2021 and 2023, he was designated as the team captain. He was selected an OAU Second Team All-Star for the 2022 and 2023 campaigns.

Hamilton, a left tackle by trade, at least caught the attention of some NFL teams even though he was not signed. He reunites with Dawson Pierre while competing in the FCS National Bowl with fellow Canadian Tyson Hergott.

It appeared as though Hamilton was overshadowed by other squad members who were receiving more attention. Now, he’s managed to get himself on a CFL roster. Is this a temporary band-aid for the preseason, or can he persevere through final cuts? Hamilton has the last say on this.
