JUST IN: New Orleans Saints announce roster moves

New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President and General Manager Mickey Loomis announced today that the team has signed wide receiver Shaquan Davis and released wide receiver Marquez Callaway.

Shaquan Davis, standing 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighing 215 pounds, is making his return to New Orleans after spending the entire 2023 season on the practice squad and participating in the 2024 offseason with the Philadelphia Eagles. He originally joined the Saints as an undrafted free agent following the 2023 NFL Draft. A native of Summerville, South Carolina, Davis enjoyed a successful college career at South Carolina State from 2019 to 2022, where he accumulated impressive statistics, including 116 receptions for 2,452 yards, averaging 21.1 yards per catch, and scoring 25 touchdowns.

After going undrafted, Davis signed with the Saints on April 29, 2023. He was briefly waived on August 29 but was quickly added to the practice squad the following day. Unfortunately, he faced challenges with injuries, including a knee issue that placed him on injured reserve on October 9, 2023. Despite these setbacks, he demonstrated resilience and determination throughout his recovery process.

During his college career, Davis was recognized for his outstanding performance, particularly in high-stakes games. His notable achievements include a standout performance in the 2021 Celebration Bowl, where he recorded five catches for 95 yards and three touchdowns, earning him the title of Offensive MVP.

Davis’s journey in the NFL has been marked by ups and downs, but his potential remains evident. After his time with the Eagles, where he signed a reserve/future contract in January 2024, he was waived in August. His return to the Saints signifies a new opportunity for him to showcase his skills and contribute to the team’s success moving forward.
