NC State had a successful day on Thursday in recruiting, securing two commitments, with the standout being Isaac Sowells Jr., a highly sought-after interior offensive line prospect. Sowells decided to join the Wolfpack over offers from Kentucky and South Carolina.
It’s a notable recruiting victory for NC State, especially since they managed to win over a recruit from Kentucky. Sowells is ranked just outside the top 500 in the 247Sports Composite rankings, making him the second highest-rated player in NC State’s 2025 recruiting class. The Wolfpack have been pursuing him since last summer, and it’s likely he will quickly become a contender for the center position once he arrives on campus.
Additionally, Sowells’ high school competes in a conference where teams may not have the typical size of players, leading to some entertaining highlights.
On the defensive side, NC State also bolstered their roster by securing a commitment from edge rushing prospect Mykah Newton from Florida, who chose NC State over offers from UCF and Michigan State. Interestingly, NC State has received more commitments from players in Florida than from in-state recruits, marking a unique trend for this recruiting cycle (which could change in the future).
According to 247Sports, Newton is currently listed at 6’2″ and 255 pounds, with potential for further growth, as indicated in their scouting report.
Displays good initial quickness and can win with both speed and power. Shifts his weight well while rounding the corner and is frequently in control of his body. Has experience operating out of both a two and three-point stance and should offer some alignment flexibility at the next level as he’s on the younger side and the body appears to be still maturing. Overall, projects as a potential multi-year contributor at the Power Four level.
Great! This is the perfect fit for NC State’s defensive line.
NC State’s 2025 recruiting class now consists of 16 commitments and is currently ranked 48th in the 247Sports Composite rankings.
