Haywood Highsmith cited for careless driving after crash that seriously injured man

The representative of Haywood Highsmith mentioned on Thursday evening that the Miami Heat player is deeply affected after being part of a late-night incident where he collided with a man who was attempting to aid the driver of another disabled vehicle.

According to the authorities, the injured individual had to undergo a partial leg amputation and suffered various fractures following the accident. The incident occurred around 11:20 p.m. on Tuesday when the injured man was trying to move the disabled vehicle, which had no lights on, away from the traffic lane when Highsmith’s car struck him.

Police reported that Highsmith received a citation for driving carelessly.

Highsmith’s agent, Jerry Dianis, stated on Thursday night, “Haywood hit a pedestrian who was pushing a disabled car without lights along a dark road. Haywood promptly rushed to assist the injured individual pushing the car. A bystander applied a tourniquet to the injuries, and Haywood remained on the scene, offering words of solace to the injured man until he was transported to the hospital by an ambulance.”

Police reported that Highsmith was driving approximately 45 mph in a 40 mph zone. Authorities confirmed that Highsmith was not under the influence of any substances and sustained no injuries in the incident.

Highsmith was heading home following Miami’s game against Orlando on Tuesday night when the collision occurred. He was not present with the Heat during their game against San Antonio on Wednesday, with the team stating he was absent due to personal reasons.

Dianis remarked, “This was a regrettable accident. We have been informed that the individual sustained significant injuries but is currently in stable condition. Haywood and his family are keeping him in their prayers. Haywood is understandably shaken by this event and is grateful for the support and prayers extended by the Miami Heat and the fans.”

It is currently uncertain when Highsmith will resume playing. The Heat’s next game is against Boston on Sunday. The team conveyed their sympathies to those harmed in a statement released on Wednesday.

Highsmith holds an average of 5.8 points per game this season.
