Kentucky has identified a pressing requirement for high school tackle players in the 2025 recruiting cycle, and securing genuine tackle prospects has posed a challenge for the Wildcats. On Sunday, a crucial victory was achieved by offensive line coach Eric Wolford and the Kentucky coaching team.
Highly ranked tackle Darrin Strey chose to commit to Kentucky during his official visit, without departing before making the decision. The Wildcats successfully secured the commitment of this promising player from Paw Paw (Mich.) High over the weekend.
“After lots of thinking and praying, I have decided to commit to the University of Kentucky to be a part of the Big Blue Wall,” Strey posted on X.
Kentucky’s class of 2025 now boasts seven commitments, with six of them on the offensive side of the ball. Darrin Strey is the fifth top-500 recruit to join the group, and he is the second lineman alongside Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier senior Tucker Kattus. Strey was the initial commitment following a significant weekend focused on the line of scrimmage for the program.
After Strey’s commitment, Kattus revealed to KSR that Strey was a primary target for Kentucky. Despite having official visits planned with Wisconsin and Stanford later in June, the Wildcats successfully secured the top-10 prospect from Michigan. Strey, a highly rated three-star recruit, chose Kentucky over Cincinnati, Illinois, and Northwestern.
This recruiting victory marked a significant success for Wolford. The attention of Kentucky’s offensive line recruiting efforts now shifts towards Taren Hedrick and Isaac “Spike” Sowells Jr., following their recent official visits in Lexington, where they witnessed a potential future teammate commit to the Wildcats.
