Just In: Louisville Misses Out on Another 5-Star Top Dream Targets

One of Louisville basketball’s top recruiting hopes, 5-star small forward Anthony Thompson, has trimmed his list of potential schools — and the Cardinals didn’t make the cut. Thompson had previously included Louisville in his top 15 after receiving more than 30 offers, but he’s now reportedly eliminated them from consideration.
Ranked as high as No. 8 nationally and the No. 2 small forward in the 2026 class, Thompson’s decision is a blow to Louisville’s recruiting aspirations. However, head coach Pat Kelsey remains heavily invested in pursuing the nation’s top overall recruit, 6-foot-8 small forward Tyran Stokes.Former Louisville fan favorite Reyne Smith is heading back to his native Australia after signing a two-year contract with the Cairns Taipans of the NBL. The sharpshooting guard made 107 three-pointers last season, etching his name into the program’s record books.
Smith also made an appearance in the NBA Summer League, where he scored 17 points and hit five threes in just one game. Though his time on the court was limited, he proved his value as a long-range threat. Now, he’ll return home to play in one of the top international leagues in the world.USC transfer quarterback Miller Moss, one of Louisville football’s marquee additions this offseason, is aiming to bounce back from a disappointing 2024 and help lead the Cardinals to their first ACC Championship appearance.
Moss identified his biggest adjustment since transferring: adapting to Jeff Brohm’s offensive system and understanding how much responsibility he carries within it. For Louisville to thrive in a challenging 2025 schedule, Moss will need to improve his consistency, limit turnovers, and trust the system — relying on his run game and making smart decisions under pressure.
If he can do that, the Cardinals could be serious contenders in the ACC this season.
