Just In: Longhorns Hire Former Assistant at Miami Dolpinsr As New Defensive Line Coach
The Texas Longhorns experienced a significant setback this offseason when they lost their defensive line coach Bo Davis.
They have now successfully filled the position by hiring Kenny Baker, a former assistant from the Miami Dolphins, as their new defensive line coach
Steve Sarkisian expressed his enthusiasm for the hiring of Kenny Baker as the new defensive line coach, stating that he came highly recommended by respected industry professionals. Sarkisian enjoyed their conversations during the interview process and believes that Baker will be an excellent addition to the coaching staff.
Sarkisian praised Baker’s coaching abilities and his potential to develop players, emphasizing that he will fit in seamlessly with the team. The Texas Longhorns are excited to have Baker on board and are eager to bring him to Austin.
During his time with the Miami Dolphins, Baker contributed to the team’s success in pressuring the quarterback, as they ranked third in the NFL in sacks with 56. The Dolphins also performed well against the run, ranking seventh in the league by allowing only 97.1 yards per game.
Kenny Baker expressed his excitement about joining Coach Sark and the Texas Longhorns, recognizing Sark’s impressive coaching accomplishments and his impact in revitalizing the program’s culture. When Sark reached out to offer him the job, Baker was thrilled, and it was an easy decision for him to accept. However, after getting to know Sark and his coaching staff, Baker realized that being a part of what they were building at Texas was a true opportunity he couldn’t pass up. Baker feels privileged to contribute to the growth and success of the exceptional student-athletes who come to Texas.
Before his NFL career, Baker spent three seasons at Western Kentucky, where he played a significant role in the team’s three consecutive bowl game appearances. Additionally, Baker helped develop DeAngelo Malone, who became the Conference USA Player of the Year and was selected in the NFL Draft for the 2021-22 season
