Chargers’ cornerback Michael Davis heads to the Commanders
The Los Angeles Chargers have seen multiple starters depart due to free-agent deals, trades, and roster cuts aimed at managing salary cap space. One of the most surprising moves was the team’s choice to part with consistent receiver Keenan Allen.
As the Chargers prepare for a revamped look in 2024 with new head coach Jim Harbaugh, they continue to lose key players. The latest departure is cornerback Michael Davis, who has joined the Washington Commanders.

Davis, an undrafted free agent acquisition by the Chargers in 2017, has remained loyal to the team throughout his seven-year tenure. During his time in the defensive backfield, he recorded a total of eight interceptions.
The decision to let Davis leave doesn’t come as a shock. In the 2023 season, he surrendered eight touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks, resulting in a high passer rating of 119.2. Additionally, he allowed 801 yards, a 65.2% completion rate, and an average of 9.0 yards per target—marked as career highs.
