JUST IN: Jaguars’ Coach makes Honest admission On New WR Gabe Davis’ Role after Calvin Ridley Trade

The Jacksonville Jaguars lost wide receiver Calvin Ridley to free agency, but they managed to acquire fellow wide receiver Gabe Davis, and head coach Doug Pederson is optimistic about his potential.

In a recent discussion about Davis, Pederson commended his adaptability and believes that it could make him a significant asset to the Jaguars’ offense.

“Gabe is, to me, like a Swiss Army knife,” Pederson stated, as reported by Demetrius Harvey of The Florida Times-Union. “He can run routes effectively, averaging around 81-82 targets a year for the last four years. He’s been a significant contributor to Buffalo’s offense.”

Davis spent his initial four seasons with the Buffalo Bills and is coming off a 2023 season where he played every game, catching 45 passes for 746 yards and seven touchdowns.

“His playing style stands out,” Pederson continued. “He’s physically imposing, runs well, and is a strong blocker. His consistent 80-plus target average is a testament to his ability. He’s a deep threat, similar to Marvin Jones (Jr.) in our first year.”

Standing at 6 feet 2 inches and weighing 225 pounds, Davis possesses a sizeable frame, coupled with a proven ability to make big plays. Two years ago, he recorded 48 receptions for 836 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging an impressive 17.4 yards per catch. Furthermore, during the 2021-22 playoffs, Davis delivered four touchdown catches in an overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round.

“I believe he will play a pivotal role in our offense. We can utilize him for blocking, running routes, and taking advantage of his strength and local presence,” Pederson added.

It’s evident that Pederson has high expectations for Gabe Davis, who has yet to surpass the 1,000-yard mark in a single season. It remains to be seen whether he can accomplish this feat in 2024.
