Miami In an indication that he is headed back to the court, injured guard Dru Smith agreed to a two-way contract on Monday, bringing him back to the Miami Heat.
When the Heat visited Cleveland in November of 2023–24, Smith was injured and had to miss the remainder of the season. He tore his right ACL after tripping over a raised area of the floor in front of the Cavaliers’ bench. Up until then, he had played in nine of Miami’s first fifteen games as a member of the team’s rotation.
In order to make place for the experienced guard Patty Mills to join the club, the Heat waived him in March. However, Miami’s coach, Erik Spoelstra, immediately stated that the team wasn’t giving up on him and that they would continue to support him during his rehabilitation.
During the previous season, Smith, 26, averaged 4.3 points per game for the Heat. Over the past two seasons, he has made appearances in 24 NBA games: 10 with Brooklyn and 14 with Miami.
The Heat have not provided an estimated timeline for Smith’s comeback to the field.
