JUST IN: Giants place top power hitter on waivers
The San Francisco Giants are making space for their recent acquisitions.
According to Robert Murray of FanSided, the Giants have put third baseman J.D. Davis on waivers in an attempt to create room. Murray mentions the possibility of Davis being claimed off waivers, highlighting his versatility having experience at first base and in the outfield.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the Giants struggled to find a trade partner for Davis. Heyman suggests that the Toronto Blue Jays could be a suitable destination for the 30-year-old Davis, who is set to earn $6.9 million in 2024 after winning an arbitration case against the Giants last month.
Despite being a key power hitter in the San Francisco lineup last season, where he ranked second in home runs (18) and led in RBIs (69) with a .248/.325/.413 slash line, Davis is now being waived as the Giants have made significant additions to their lineup. This influx of talent likely reduced their bargaining power in trade discussions, prompting them to place Davis, a right-handed hitter, on waivers.
