Just In: Georgia Tech lands the commitment of the son of a former 9-time WNBA All-Star

The son of former WNBA 9-time All-star Tina Thompson, announced his commitment to Georgia Tech on Wednesday, as reported on Twitter.

The ’24 wing becomes the 5th recruit to pledge to Coach Damon Stoudamire’s squad. Georgia Tech, currently boasting a top 30 recruiting class, is expected to receive a rankings boost.

Both Jaeden Mustaf and Darrion Sutton, prospects from Overtime Elite, lead the 2024 class rankings. At Second Baptist in Houston, TX, Thompson showcased his skills, leading the team in scoring with an average of 18 points and 7 rebounds per game in his senior year.

Player Analysis

The senior recruit Dyllan Thompson makes a memorable first impression with his height, but another aspect that Georgia Tech fans should appreciate is his experience playing for John Lucas’s Nike EYBL team, JL3. The EYBL circuit has long been renowned in AAU basketball, and it closely mirrors the college game.

Upon reviewing film of the Houston native, it’s evident that Dyllan approaches the game with high energy on both offense and defense, with a particular focus on crashing the boards. His commitment to rebounding, coupled with his offensive skills, suggests that he could make an early impact in college, as they say that offense scores points, defense wins games, and rebounding wins championships.

Additionally, as a wiry wing with room to grow, it’s likely that his ball-handling skills will continue to progress, granting him the ability to navigate the court effectively due to his length and size. His shooting ability is also notable, as he posted a 35 percent success rate from 175 three-point attempts in his senior season.

With a mother who has excelled at the highest levels of women’s sports, Dyllan has access to a wealth of resources to aid in his development. It will be intriguing to see how he progresses under the guidance of Coach Stoudamire and his team.
