Florida State football is wrapping up its fall camp in preparation for the season opener against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, scheduled for Saturday, August 24th, at 12 PM EST in Dublin, Ireland.
After finishing the 2023 season undefeated and winning a championship, the Seminoles must shift their focus. Fans and supporters remain frustrated, however, due to the College Football Playoff committee’s decision to exclude the undefeated Seminoles in favor of one-loss Alabama.
This offseason, Florida State bolstered its roster through the transfer portal, adding quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, wide receiver Malik Benson, and defensive end Marvin Jones Jr., while also retaining several key players from last season.
As fall camp concludes, the coaching staff allowed redshirt junior safety Shyheim Brown to break the rock, marking the end of practice as they gear up for the matchup against Georgia Tech.

Brown is one of the standout talents on the Seminoles’ defense for 2024. Florida State is tasked with replacing key players like safety Akeem Dent, who was known for his effective communication and ensuring proper alignment for the team.
Although Brown was not regarded as an All-American prospect coming out of high school, the current coaching staff has a reputation for developing a range of players on their roster.
In the 2023 season, Brown recorded 53 total tackles. A key question remains about which safety will partner with him: Davonte Brown or Conrad Hussey? Having the right companion could enhance Brown’s performance.
Brown is recognized as a vocal leader on the team. Defensive coordinator Adam Fuller likely feels confident in the defense’s potential for success, especially early in the season. Despite being just a redshirt junior in 2024, Brown has a strong chance of being selected in the 2025 NFL Draft.
