Former Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Released by CFL Team
The Green Bay Packers boast alumni dispersed throughout the football landscape. Naturally, they have ex-players in various teams within the NFL (like Aaron Jones with the Minnesota Vikings, Aaron Rodgers with the New York Jets, De’Vondre Campbell with the San Francisco 49ers, etc.), but they also have former players competing in different professional football leagues.
One notable case is former tight end Jace Sternberger, who has been excelling with the Birmingham Stallions in the USFL. In the previous season, he earned a spot on the All-USFL Team by tallying 33 receptions for 517 yards and seven touchdowns. In the current season, he has accumulated 23 receptions for 401 yards and three touchdowns.
Regrettably, not every ex-player encounters such success after departing from Green Bay and/or the NFL.
The CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders have parted ways with former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Geronimo Allison
One of the individuals mentioned is ex-wide receiver Geronimo Allison, who was a part of the Green Bay Packers for four years, spanning from 2016 to 2019. Throughout his tenure, he recorded 89 receptions for 1,045 yards and six touchdowns.
In a recent update on X (previously known as Twitter), Packers journalist Easton Butler disclosed that Allison had been let go by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League (CFL).

Geronimo Allison’s Best Seasons Were with the Green Bay Packers
Following being undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft, Allison inked a deal with the Packers. Despite showcasing promise during training camp and the preseason, he found himself part of the final cuts as the roster was trimmed to 53 players. Nevertheless, Green Bay brought him back by adding him to their practice squad.
Later in that same year, he was promoted to the active roster and scored a touchdown in his NFL debut. As a rookie, he played in 10 games, securing 12 receptions for 202 yards and two touchdowns.
The subsequent year, Allison faced a one-game suspension due to a violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy. However, he delivered his standout performance two weeks after his return, amassing six catches for 122 yards against the Cincinnati Bengals.
In 2018, Allison appeared ready to progress further. After three weeks, he tallied 19 catches for 283 yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately, a concussion hampered his momentum. He was later placed on injured reserve following groin surgery.
Returning to Green Bay in 2019, Allison achieved a career-high of 34 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns. Nevertheless, that marked his final year with the team.
Following his four-season tenure with the Packers, Allison joined the Detroit Lions. He opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns but competed in 2021. Despite this, he did not secure a spot on the final roster and was instead placed on the practice squad. While elevated for three games, he did not make a reception for the Lions.
In 2022, Allison signed with the Atlanta Falcons but was released towards the conclusion of training camp.
