Paul George may have alienated many Clippers fans with his abrupt move to the Philadelphia 76ers, but his former teammates hold a different view. Among them is Lou Williams, a three-time Sixth Man of the Year.
During an episode of “The Underground Lounge,” Williams shared his thoughts on George’s transition to the 76ers, expressing confidence in the fit. “I think it’s going to be a great fit,” he stated, noting the team’s need for a strong wing presence. He believes Tyrese Maxey will benefit significantly from George’s arrival, suggesting that George will create more opportunities for Maxey to excel. Williams emphasized that if Joel Embiid can adjust his positioning, it would further enhance the team’s offensive dynamics, making it difficult for defenses to double-team players.
While Williams is optimistic about George’s impact on the 76ers, he doesn’t see them as the top contenders in the Eastern Conference, stating that the Boston Celtics remain the team to beat. He remarked, “I don’t see that, because Boston is still the top dog until somebody knocks them off of that.”
Regardless of the mixed feelings from Clippers fans regarding George’s playoff performance, Williams believes that George will be a significant upgrade over Tobias Harris, positioning the 76ers as serious championship contenders.
Although Lou Williams is optimistic about the Philadelphia 76ers’ potential with Paul George, he does not see them as the favorites in the Eastern Conference, a title he believes still belongs to the Boston Celtics. “I don’t see that, because Boston is still the top dog until somebody knocks them off of that,” Williams remarked, asserting that they remain the team to beat.
Regardless of the opinions of Clippers fans regarding Paul George’s playoff performance last season, his addition to the 76ers represents a considerable improvement over Tobias Harris. This alone positions the 76ers as a team with championship aspirations and high expectations for success.
