Just In: Final word on Coleman Hawkins

Coleman Hawkins recently made his way to Manhattan, Kansas, last week. This marks the beginning of his last college basketball season for Kansas State, following four years at Illinois.

Hawkins’ choice to play his final year for the Wildcats only serves to further connect him with Brad Underwood. The Illinois coach also has strong ties to Kansas State, having played there and later returned as an assistant coach under Bob Huggins and Frank Martin.

Underwood expressed his desire for Hawkins to join a team where he felt he could make a significant impact, stating,

“I wanted him to go where he felt like he could be a major contributor. Obviously, I know a lot of people there. The Wildcats are always close to the heart as a former player and coach there. Happy for him and happy for them.

“They are getting a truly exceptional player. I’ve said it before—Coleman is a basketball prodigy. He will not only benefit the team but also impart his knowledge and understanding to the other players. His adeptness in handling a scouting report is unmatched. He’s exactly where he needs to be.”
