Former wide receiver Ike Hilliard, who played for 12 seasons in the NFL, is joining the Atlanta Falcons as part of their coaching staff. Hilliard started his playing career as a first-round pick for the New York Giants in 1997 and stayed with the team until 2004. He then played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2005 to 2008 before retiring.
In Atlanta, Hilliard will be working with new head coach Raheem Morris and offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, who have recently taken over the team. Despite having other interview opportunities, including with the Chicago Bears, Hilliard chose to join the Falcons to utilize his experience and work with promising players like Drake London.
Interestingly, Hilliard’s move to the Falcons comes shortly after the Pittsburgh Steelers reached an agreement with former Atlanta head coach Arthur Smith to become their new offensive coordinator.
