Aheem Mostert has found a new sense of belonging in Miami in 2023, and he’s so content that he has decided to remain with the team until 2025.
Mostert and the Dolphins have reached an agreement on a fresh two-year contract valued at a maximum of $9.075 million, as reported by NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo on Friday, citing sources.
Having established himself as a reliable running back during his six-year stint in San Francisco, Mostert inked a one-year deal with the Dolphins in 2022. In his first season under coach Mike McDaniel, he averaged 4.9 yards per carry. Mostert further impressed in 2023, achieving his first-ever 1,000-yard season (1,012 yards) and leading the league in rushing touchdowns with 18.
Mostert achieved those statistics while sharing playing time with rookie De’Von Achane, who himself recorded 800 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in 2024 as part of the NFL’s most potent offense. This performance led the Dolphins to renegotiate Mostert’s contract, extending it by an additional year to keep him on the team until 2025.
The revised agreement for Mostert marks another significant milestone in a career that began when he entered the NFL as an undrafted and overlooked running back. In his rookie season in 2015, Mostert played for three teams (Cleveland, Miami, Baltimore), then moved on to two more teams in 2016 (Chicago and San Francisco) before finally finding a stable home with the 49ers.
Approaching 32 years of age (he will be 32 in April), Mostert has managed to capitalize on the later stages of his career, something uncommon for players in his position in today’s game. It remains to be seen whether Miami will be his last destination in a career that has exceeded everyone’s expectations in terms of longevity.
