In the off-season, the Toronto Maple Leafs must make some adjustments following yet another disappointing postseason campaign. With the appointment of Craig Berube as their new head coach, the project got underway.
Berube hasn’t been spotted around the Leafs until the press conference where he was formally introduced as the team’s new head coach.
On Monday morning, though, he was recently seen with forward Mitch Marner in a café. In a matter of minutes, the image of the two men went viral on the internet.

The image was captured at a café in the Etobicoke neighbourhood of Toronto. It’s amusing to watch Marner conversing with Berube given the flurry of trade rumors that have been going around the NHL for the past several weeks involving the Canadian forward.
Setting the record straight and holding a formal meeting was probably an appropriate use of this topic. Marner will need to learn from Berube if he decides to stay with the Maple Leafs, which is still up in the air. It won’t hurt to have a good conversation.
The two men, though, are very different people. When you think about Berube, you see a severe coach who won’t hesitate to yell at his team and inflict punishment when needed.
Conversely, Marner is a charming young athlete who enjoys making jokes and is frequently grinning. Except that when things go wrong, he also becomes unstable and irritable.
Maybe Marner will benefit from Berube’s coaching. Perhaps he is the type of coach who can manage his player’s mood swings and will be able to keep him focused during crucial situations.
The depressing aspect of it all is that the only image we have of this occurrence is a blurry one. We can conjure up all kinds of tales, but we won’t immediately understand what these two men are discussing.
We can be happy to believe that they are getting to know one another and attempting to communicate their differences in order to build strong bonds for the upcoming season.
