Running back Chase Brown’s injury is a serious worry for the Cincinnati Bengals ahead of their Week 18 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After intentionally sliding at the one-yard line to stop himself from scoring in order to run out the clock, Brown suffered an ankle injury late in the fourth quarter of the Week 17 game against the Denver Broncos.

The Bengals then punched it in the end zone on the following play, as if that wasn’t awful enough. Before Cincy won with a touchdown pass from Joe Burrow to Tee Higgins, the Broncos would tie the game on the following drive.

After leaving the game, Brown did not return, leaving him in the air for the Bengals’ Week 18 matchup with the Steelers, which they must win to have a shot at the playoffs. This is Brown’s most recent injury update.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Chase Brown, the running back for the Cincinnati Bengals, is not seriously injured and could play in Week 18.

Rapoport said Sunday morning, “I understand that this is not a major injury, so he does, in fact, have a chance to play next week.”

Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports is not optimistic, stating that Brown sustained a high-ankle sprain, which typically takes several weeks to heal. Brown is “determined” to try despite the injury, Schultz continues.”Sources: Bengals star running back Chase Brown was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain after an MRI this morning,” Schultz said. “How he performs during the week will determine whether Brown is able to play in Cincinnati’s crucial Week 18 matchup against Pittsburgh.”

The significance of Brown is obvious

for the Bengals. He is, after all, their top back and is only 10 yards away from reaching 1,000 yards this season. With Zack Moss on injured reserve, the Bengals already lack a running back.

Khalil Herbert, a running back, will lead the offence if Brown is unable to travel. He recorded four carries for 23 yards on Saturday after being acquired from the Chicago Bears at the trade deadline. The Steelers have already booked their ticket to the postseason, albeit their seed is still up in the air, while the Bengals are fighting for their playoff lives. If they win and the Baltimore Ravens lose in Week 18, they still have a chance to win the AFC North.
